The Zanzibar Excursion

Zanzibar is an amazing island and there are many things that you can do here - it is advisable to read a guide book before you go as well as speak to your guide so that you will get what you want out of this excursion.

We do not include Zanzibar as part of the organized tour as most people prefer to explore the island on their own, or with some of your new friends from the tour.
There are banking and Internet facilities on the island. Often the exchange rates for foreign currency and Travellers Cheques are better here than in Dar es Salaam but make sure you speak to the guide about how much money you will need before you change too much.

There are different ways to get to Zanzibar and your guide will tell you which is the best value currently. Remember that although Tanzania is officially a Christian country, Zanzibar is Muslim and if you are there during any Muslim religious holidays you should show the appropriate respect. It is not advisable for women to be dressed very revealingly as this could offend some locals. This is only a potential problem in Stone Town, if you stay at any of the resorts this is not a problem.
